Toyo Eatery Hailed One of the Best Restaurants in Asia

(SPOT.ph) It's always great news when our local restaurants gain global recognition—it is, after all, about time we showed the world what we've got! Every year, the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list ranks the best establishments around the continent—and we've got great news. Contemporary Filipino spot Toyo Eatery has made it to the 49th spot in the 2021 edition, which was unveiled virtually today, March 25. Asia's 50 Best Restaurants also deems Toyo Eatery the Best Restaurant in the Philippines.

Toyo Eatery once again makes it to the esteemed Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list.
Their takes on Filipino food are unlike any other.

"Congratulations to Jordy and May Navarra, who are wowing foodies with menus that capture the Philippines’ terroir," Asia's 50 Best announced on their Twitter account.

Toyo Eatery is known for their playful dishes that shine the spotlight on local ingredients and traditional eats showcased in a new and ingenious light. This isn't their first time on the esteemed list—they also earned the 43rd spot in the 2019 edition, and the 44th spot in the 2020 edition. Toyo Eatery was also bestowed the Miele One To Watch Award in 2018, also by the organizers of Asia's 50 Best Restaurants.

This year's Asia's 50 Best Restaurants list is also special in that they extended the list to include 50 more entries, in the form of the 51-100 section—and two more local establishments are included! At the 90th spot is Gallery by Chele, which is known for their modern and eye-opening dishes with Filipino ingredients and traditional cooking methods; and at the 84th spot is Antonio's, which is the go-to spot for fine-dining eats in Tagaytay. (The latter also made it to the list in 2015, and was the first Filipino restaurant to do so.)

ICYMI, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants also released an unranked Essence of Asia list on March 16, listing establishments that represent "the spirit of Asian gastronomy". HapagEarth KitchenBale Dutung in Pampanga, and Farmer's Daughter in Baguio were included in the list.
