The Suez Canal Has Been Unclogged and the Internet Celebrated With the Most Hilarious Memes

(SPOT.ph) You know that tense feeling you get when backing out into a busy road and momentarily blocking traffic? Yeah, well magnify that a gajillion times and you might get a fraction of the tension that built up as a massive vessel—practically as long as the Empire State Building is tall—Tokyo-drifted itself into a huge blockade at the Suez Canal, effectively halting a sizable chunk of the maritime trade industry. Yup, we're talking about the MV Ever Given, which after nearly a week's worth of hard work was finally freed on Monday, March 29, Eastern European Time.

For some poetics, know that it was mainly wind that caused the ship to get lodged sideways into a single-lane section of the canal and it was also environmental forces that helped get it unstuck. A "spring tide" brought in around 46 centimeters more water than usual on March 29, and those few centimeters meant all the difference in getting the 200,000-ton vessel back on course, pointed out the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Anyone else feel like Mother Earth is just throwing hands right now?

The 200,000-ton cargo ship, Ever Given, is operated by Taiwanese shipping company Evergeen (hence the slightly confusing name emblazoned on its side), and her getting stuck in this incredibly vital trade route proved insanely gripping for the rest of the world. Maybe it was exactly this kind of massive clusterf*ck that we needed to distract us from all the other clusterf*cks currently happening in our own home court, maybe it was the image of a single payloader trying its best to dredge out the Ever Given that hit too close to our own existential crises, who can say for sure? Whatever the case, the whole fiasco undoubtedly became Internet gold.

Folks online mined the Ever Given situation for all its worth (in memes), and now that our one collective source of joy and online content is finally free to move on with its life, the Internet is feeling some ways. Sure, the massive maritime traffic jam caused by the six-day blockade will most likely have lasting repercussions, but for now, it's time to send off the Ever Given by commemorating some of the best memes and musings it gave us. BRB while we check on whether something interesting is happening over at the Panama Canal.
