(SPOT.ph) Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, have now been placed under a "GCQ Bubble" starting today, March 22 until April 4. And with the new adjustments in place, it looks like we're getting a whole new name as well: "NCR Plus." Yeah, read that as many times as you like but it's real. The term—which also goes by as "NCR+" in Department of Health's announcements—was first dropped along with the announcement for the bubble on Sunday, March 21—and now people are freaking out over the sudden address change.

The term "NCR Plus" is a "shortcut" name for Metro Manila, which was previously under general community quarantine, and the surrounding provinces, which were under modified community quarantine, according to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque. "It's NCR plus the four provinces," he explained on ABS-CBN. It is not sure who exactly came up with the term.

The technical term would help authorities with all the new rules to write down and enforce, et cetera—now if only an older term didn't already exist. "Greater Manila Area" is what people used to say when referring to the National Capital Region and surrounding urban provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal, but we guess the "in" thing is now "NCR Plus."

This is the latest in the sudden slew of new terms coming from the Inter-Agency Task Force and other authorities. Remember back in 2020 when people were doing their best to make sense of the quarantine and all its iterations? Looks like it's time for a new edition of a quarantine dictionary! So you're all caught up on "NCR Plus"; check out the other new terms below:

  • GCQ Bubble - Think of it as your usual GCQ but the borders have been expanded to include all of the Greater Manila Area—sorry, we meant "NCR Plus."
  • Hard GCQ and Soft MECQ - Two terms from the OCTA Research Group as they called for stricter measures amid the latest surge of cases. They essentially refer to the same type of quarantine, right between the two mid-levels of quarantine restrictions. Bottomline is that this type of quarantine is meant to halt the sudden spike.

Still trying to absorb everything going on right now? So are we. In the meantime, take a look at some of the most hilarious reactions to this new "NCR Plus" term—in case you need a breather.
