Ditch the Cabin Fever and Learn Freediving This Summer

(SPOT.ph) With more than 7,000 islands, it is without a doubt that the Philippines is home to some of the world's best diving sites. (We even got a title for it.) And one of the best ways to make the most out of a summer getaway in domestic destinations is to learn freediving—a form of underwater diving without having to lug around heavy scuba equipment.

If you're looking for freediving classes in Metro Manila and nearby, these groups are offering affordable classes this March:

Aquaholics Freediving

Aquaholics Freediving holds two-day basic freediving courses facilitated by certified coaches for P2,199. It is open for beginners, swimmers, and non-swimmers. Their March schedule is every Friday and Saturday in their Pangasinan and Batangas training grounds.

Freedive PH

If you want to learn freediving in a controlled environment, Freedive PH has sessions for beginners and non-swimmers on March 14 (Sunday), March 27 (Saturday), and March 28 (Saturday) at the 20-foot swimming pool of Scuba Studio in San Juan City. The class costs P2,800, which includes a two-hour session on theory and a two-hour practice in the pool. You can bring your own gear or rent at the venuemask and snorkel for P300 and short fins for P200.

Apnea Philippines

For the more advanced freedivers, Apnea Philippines is offering line training practice for all weekends of March in Batangas. Two-hour line training at 12 meters is at P1,400, while the three-hour line training at 20 meters is at P1,900. They also have certification courses that include one pool training session and two open-water sessions (P12,000).

Swim Central

Aside from having swimming lessons for adults, Swim Central also offers Try Freediving Class taught by an SSI-certified coach. Sessions are at the Plunge Dive Club at The Upper Deck in Pasig City. The four-hour class costs P2,000, inclusive of gear. They have weekday and weekend schedules for March and April.
