Best of Both Worlds: Laptops for Work and Play

PHOTO BY Acer, Facebook/Xitrix ILLUSTRATION War Espejo

(SPOT.ph) Since 2020, the distinction between having a work and home computer have become blurred. Although most have been homebound, laptops have become the preferred option because of their portability and versatility. They can be carried around or even function as a desktop replacement especially when attached to an external monitor.

With flexible work arrangements becoming the norm, one minute you are checking work e-mails at a coffee shop and the next, you are playing your favorite hack-and-slash RPG to take the edge off from a long Zoom meeting. Having a dedicated device for these different activities seems impractical, especially if you’re not a hardcore power user with an enthusiast-level machine.  But there are capable computers that can do double duty as an entertainment device for streaming video, audio, and of course playing games. With that in mind, if you’re in the market for a new laptop, here are machines strike the balance between work and play.

Looking for laptops for work and play? Here are some devices to check out:

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 (P52,995)

Lenovo’s reputation is well-earned when it comes to both productivity and gaming laptops. The IdeaPad Gaming 3 has no trouble living up to this reputation as a capable dual-duty device. The Onyx Black chassis gives the laptop a suitably understated look and the blue illuminated keys are great for low-light situations. Because of the 1.5mm key-travel, long typing sessions on the keys results in less fatigue. Powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H CPU with 8GB of fast DDR4 memory, this IdeaPad offers a fast 120Hz screen refresh rate and full-HD display, with HDMI out for an external monitor, means there’s no screen tearing. The long lasting Rapid Charge battery can be charged up to 80% after an hour of charging. On the graphics front, a 4GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650Ti gives this machine enough muscle to run most games at high settings. As an added bonus, this version of the IdeaPad Gaming 3 comes with a digital copy of Death Stranding so you can start your after-work gaming session right away.
