(SPOT.ph) Being vegan or following a plant-based diet in the world we live in today can be a real challenge, considering how many kinds of food, clothing, and other things we encounter in our daily lives involve animal products in some way. But that's slowly changing—and one company that's dipping their toes into the vegan world is Nestlé. The food and beverage company has announced that it'll soon be launching the KitKat V, or a vegan version of the famous chocolate-wafer candy!
The KitKat V will be using a rice-based ingredient in place of the usual milk; is certified vegan; and is said to be made from 100% sustainable cocoa that's "sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance". The bar was developed by chocolate experts in Nestlé’s confectionery research and development center in York, U.K., with Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center's Louise Barrett saying "taste" was a key factor in developing the chocolate. "We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat."
Excited? The KitKat V will be launched later this year in several countries through the KitKat Chocolatory and selected retailers, "to test the opportunity for a wider roll-out." There's no word yet on whether you can get hold of the product in the Philippines—but hey, it doesn't hurt to cross your fingers and dream!
