This farmhouse-inspired home in Cagayan Valley has a unique feature any avid reader will surely love: A towering library! And we mean that literally.
“It’s around 20-feet high,” homeowner Chad Turingan shares with Real Living. “If your favorite book is on the top shelf, you better not be scared of heights!” he jokingly adds.
Turingan, who is a farmer, has a bright and airy living area with a tall ceiling. Initially, he wanted to decorate the plain white walls with random artworks. “But since I live in the mountains, and I [don’t always] have access to modern gadgets, I decided to fill up one of the walls with books that could keep me company.”
“I wasn't actually a bookworm growing up,” he recounts. “I was more of a couch potato. I hated reading.” This all changed when he stumbled upon a book titled 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. “I was just walking along the aisles of a public library, and then, I accidentally hit a pile of books. Tim's book was the last one I picked up to return to the shelf. I read the first few pages, and I never put it down until I finished it. That was the start of my interest in stealing knowledge from books.”
In case you’re curious, Turingan hasn’t read every book on his shelf yet. “Hopefully, I would have gone through at least half of these books before I die! I actually didn’t install a television anywhere in this house to encourage myself to read instead.”
Found on a mountain slope in Enrile, Cagayan, Turingan’s cozy abode is surrounded by lush hills and forrests—including the beautiful Sierra Madre mountain range. It’s truly a relaxing place to come home to and a perfect spot to open a good book!
