Get Cheesy: Instant Cheese Ramen and Where to Get Them

ILLUSTRATION War Espejo

Cheese can be added to a lot of dishes, a comforting bowl of ramen included. Adding cheese to a piping hot bowl of ramen instantly melts cheese, giving you a thicker, creamier, and tastier take on the classic comfort food. We know it's an easy hack to just throw whatever cheese you have in the fridge tto a bowl of hot noods, but why not give the ready-made packets a try, too? Aside from easy cooking, most of these come with cheese in an instant packet.

There are several different instant cheese ramen packs sold in Korean groceries and local chain supermarkets. If you want to taste for yourself what the instant cheese ramen hype is about, we list different brands that offer it and places where you can buy it.

Here are the instant cheese ramen variants you can shop in Manila:

Ottogi's Cheese Bokki

Ottogi's Cheese Bokki (P70) is a broth-less type of instant cheese ramen. You will have to cook the noodles, drain the water, and then mix in the cheese seasoning before taking a bite. According to the Ramen Noodlist, this doesn't have a spicy flavor as what one would expect from a tteokbokki-inspired ramen; the flavors are more similar to mac and cheese.

Available at Famulei.

Ottogi's Cheese Ramen (P60) is one of the most popular instant cheese ramen variants out there. While the Cheese Bokki, this item has broth. To prepare, just cook the noodles and add in the cheese powder and mix when it starts boiling.

Ottogi's Real Cheese Ramen

Another instant cheese ramen Ottogi produces is the Real Cheese Ramen (P66/plastic pack, P88/cup). What makes this cheesy ramen different is that it has "real cheese." Instead of the cheese powder, you get a sachet of melted cheese that you add to the hot ramen. Just mix well and slurp away!

Available at Famulei.

Paldo's Cheese Ramyun

A pack of Paldo's Cheese Ramen (P65/pack, P250/multi-pack) includes noodles and a sachet each for the soup base, dehydrated vegetables, and cheese powder. You cook this the same way you would cook any instant ramen, but with the added step of sprinkling the cheese powder while the noodles are cooking.

Available at Famulei (per pack) and Assi Fresh Plaza (multi-pack).

Samyang's Buldak Cheese

Do you remember the Fire Noodle Challenge? Samyang also has a cheese version of the Hot Chicken flavor (P70/pack, P325/five-piece pack). This broth-less ramyun is still spicy, but with the help of the cheese powder packet, it makes it easier to eat if you love spicy food but don't necessarily have a high tolerance for it.

Available at Famulei.
