(SPOT.ph) Let’s face it: sometimes, we find ourselves looking to escape the more industrial nature of the Philippine capital, and itching to explore lesser-traveled roads in its neighboring areas. If you happen to be looking for a great place to hang out—and maybe enjoy a well-crafted cup of joe or other drinks or eats along the way—then it’s worth exploring one-of-a-kind cafés you can only find outside the Metro. We round up noteworthy spots you’ll want to drive to on your next long break.

Moon Cafe

This coffee shop in Angeles, Pampanga takes its cue from the cafés of South Korea, going for an elegant but cool look with white tiles, suspended lights, and the occasional pops of foliage. The Korean theme extends to the details as they play K-Drama soundtracks and carry Korean and Japanese magazines, which you can chill out to while sipping on one of their pour-over or specialty cups of joe.

Flour Pot Rum Cakes Al Fresco Café

Flour Pot Rum Cakes is known for their many pastries (among which are their strawberry doughnuts and, of course, their rum cakes), and they recently opened their own standalone café at The Inn at Cliffhouse Tagaytay. You can enjoy their signature pastries in a rustic al-fresco setting with plenty of greenery and string lights for a romantic feel.

Typica Coffee

Formerly a sari-sari store, Typica Coffee is a small café in Taytay that takes inspiration from the coffee shops you’ll find along the streets of Japan. It’s got a minimalist, mostly-white space that’s on the small but cozy side, as well as an al-fresco area if you’re looking for fresh air. Their short-but-sweet menu includes basics like Brewed Coffee (P60) and Latte (P80), as well as flavored brews like the Caramel (P90) and Hazelnut (P90).

Muni Cafe

Find yourself needing a coffee break while on the road? If you happen to be along the National Highway in Longos, Kalayaan, Laguna, check out Muni Cafe. Their Japanese-inspired interiors with touches of wood and shades of white and gray make them a laid-back place to hang out in, and—get this—you can get a V60 Pour Over coffee for as low as P45 and Kori Kohi for just P70!

Indie Green Garden Café & Coastal

Formerly known as Dreamland Arts and Crafts Café and formerly located in Tagaytay, Indie Green Garden Café & Coastal in Batangas is a haven for the free-spirited, independent soul. Your inner boheme will be inspired by the arts and crafts (and dreamcatchers) mingling with greenery in their cozy space! As you feast your eyes on the quirky interiors, you can fill up on their eats and drinks made with ingredients from their very own garden and other local farms.

Amand Coffee

Located in Amando’s Resort in Angeles, Pampanga, Amand Coffee Bar offers a tranquil space for coffee heads to hang out and engage in their love for a good cup of joe. Amand uses a blend of local Robusta beans and coffee beans from Sicily, Italy, to craft up drinks like the Vanilla Macchiato (P160/dark roast, P170/light roast) and the more out-of-the-box Mocha Martini (P210/dark roast, P220/light roast).

Pots & Kettles

If you’re looking to savor a cup of joe in a garden-inspired space, check out this café located in Bay, Laguna. It takes inspiration from the restaurants and restaurants and coffeehouses in Calabarzon and offers great coffee that you can pair with Filipino-style breakfast meals.

CaKe’s Coffee and Tea

This relative newcomer in Amadeo, Cavite, greets you with its distinctive all-white store front. Inside, it’s got a cool and laid-back atmosphere, made bright by the many windows that allow the natural light to enter—which makes it perfect for chilling out in on a lazy weekend afternoon, as you sip on their cups of joe made with local coffee beans.

Barista Loft

Barista Loft in Tagaytay is a cozy coffee shop with dark, intimate interiors, making it the ideal place for catching up with a friend or for a casual date. Their beverage lineup includes everything from the basic Cappuccino (P110/tall, P120/grande) to the more decadent Nutella Espresso (P130/tall, P140/grande) and cool, creamy Vanilla Latte Frappe (P135/grande, P145/tower).
