What would you do if Pikachu visited your home? Well, take tips from Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa, who has experienced just that when the beloved Pokémon character visited his Manila residence on January 9.

"Let’s fill our hearts with joy and happiness through the power of #Anime, while taking necessary precautions to keep us safe and healthy," the ambassador said in a tweet.

In the photos posted on the page of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, we could see the Pokémon and Koshikawa-san sharing a socially distanced omurice meal in the garden of the ambassador's residence. Omurice is fried rice wrapped in an egg omelet and is usually topped with ketchup, which is a great meal to serve to Pikachu since the Pokémon loves ketchup.

"Japanese hospitality is called #Omotenashi. It’s not too different from Filipino hospitality, which always comes with a smile," said the ambassador in a follow-up tweet, which came with more photos of him alongside Pikachu. The embassy is drumming up interest in the ambassador's Twitter account, @AmbJPNinPH.

While known for being sticklers for protocol, the Japanese know when to harness the pop-culture treasure trove to endear themselves to the world. During the closing of the 2016 Rio Olympics, then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe appeared in a Super Mario costume to drum up interest in Tokyo's hosting of the games.

Britain's Ambassador to the Philippines, Daniel Pruce, also makes it a point to speak in Tagalog, even on Twitter.
