(SPOT.ph) Wall climbing is a fun way to get some much-needed workout while navigating through cracks and foot holds as you try to reach the top. You can level it up by free climbing on boulders, where you get more overhanging surfaces to test your upper body strength. But if you're looking to do this inside the comforts of an air-conditioned gym, The Bouldering Hive at Ayala Malls Circuit has finally reopened following months of closure to the pandemic.
The Bouldering Hive lets you climb walls without a harness or a rope since the obstacles are closer to the ground. All you need are climbing shoes, some chalk to prevent slips, and a good amount of balance, coordination and strength.
“Bouldering is a modern approach to climbing,” founder Christoph Bastin said in a statement. “It is a 3D puzzle you solve with your body. This is a way people can try something new and overcome their limits, like a fear of heights. We have a saying in the climbing community, ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway.’ You can climb at your own pace and experience the joy of overcoming your limits.”
To adapt to the pandemic, The Bouldering Hive is requiring health declarations and temperature checks upon entry. Masks must be worn at all times. With capacity limited to only 30 pax at a time, pre-reservation is implemented. There are three three-hour time slots per day with 30-minute breaks for a full disinfection of the gym. Showers are currently closed, and only liquid chalk is permitted on-site.
Rates start at P600, but if you want to go all out, they have a starter pack at P1,200 that can be used for three sessions. They also have long-term membership packages that range from P1,300 (one month) to P23,000 (12 months).
The Bouldering Hive is at UG/F, Ayala Malls Circuit, Circuit Makati, Hippodromo Street corner AP Reyes Avenue, Makati City. Rates start at P600. Time slots are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit The Bouldering Hive's website.
