10 Effortlessly Stylish High-Waist Jeans to Hide Your Post-Holiday Bloat

(SPOT.ph) Since making a monumental comeback in the early 2010s, high-waisted jeans have become one the most popular trends in fashion, arguably outgrowing the term "trend" and maturing into "wardrobe essential"—and we won’t sugarcoat why. Back in the 2000s, low-waist jeans were the only socially acceptable option when it came to denim pants, but truth be told, they just weren’t for everybody. For those of us who don’t resemble '90s Kate Moss, the hip-hugging silhouette of tight, low-waist pants squeeze out the extra fat around the midsection of the body like a toothpaste tube—no, seriously. That means unless you’ve got a supermodel bod, chances are low-waist just isn’t a wise pick, especially if you like to wear crop tops, bodysuits, or skin-tight tanks.

If you grew up in the (thankfully long-gone) era of low-waist jeans, then you know that the rule of thumb was always this: the lower the waistline, the more on-trend the jeans. If you ask us, our fashion philosophy goes more like this: the higher the waistline, the closer to God. And quite frankly, we’re hoping to make it into heaven. So yes, to put it simply, high-waisted jeans are the pinnacle of all that is good and holy, the culmination of years of struggling through ill-fitting trousers, and most importantly, the best option when it comes to concealing a little bit of post-holiday bloat. No shade though, we encourage you to eat to your heart’s content. Who cares how big your stomach gets? Your high-waisted jeans will always have your back. *Mic drop*

Micro Elastic Jeans (P9,750) from Calvin Klein Jeans

These Calvin Klein jeans exude classic style from waist to ankle. The mid-toned blue wash, straight cut, high-waisted fit, and just-above-the-ankle length make this piece a closet-staple that will look stylish for years. They’re slim, which means they’ll flatter your figure, but also not skin-tight, so they’ll be much more forgiving compared to regular skinny jeans.

Available at Rustan's.

721 High Rise Skinny Ankle Jeans (P2,999.50) Levi’s

Levi's is an age-old favorite among denim enthusiasts—after all, they did invent the OG blue jeans back in the 1870s. These high-waisted skinny jeans from the legendary clothing company feature a form-flattering fit that hugs the curves, but loosens up slightly around the ankle, making them comfortable for moving around throughout the day and giving them an effortless elegance.

Mom-Fit Jeans (P2,295) from Mango

Mom jeans are known for their just-slouch-enough silhouette—similar to the laid-back look you get from boyfriend jeans, but with a more-tailored, figure-hugging shape that can be worn casually or dressed up with a fancy blouse. This pair from Mango is a great example. The relaxed fit around the zipper area will give you breathing room when eating while also lengthening the hip region—a good option for shorter frames since high-waisted pants can sometimes make you look shorter. Though the fit stays fairly loose from top to bottom, it tapers just a bit around the lower leg area, giving more structure to the overall silhouette.

Available at Mango stores nationwide.

Extra-High Waisted Sky-Hi Straight Raw-Edge Jeans (P2,450) from Old Navy

These jeans from Old Navy are an inch higher than the brand’s standard high-waisted jeans, so they’re a safe bet for covering the dreaded belly-button area. They feature a relaxed silhouette that hugs the waist and widens out as it goes down toward the hem. The silhouette will emphasize your shape, balance out your figure if you have a wider upper body, and keep your ankle area nice and breezy.

Available on Trunc.ph and Old Navy stores; see a list of branches.

The fit tapers around the ankle to elevate the relaxed look, giving it an understated sophistication. This pair is available in black, off-white, and three shades of denim blue—you’ll want to collect them all.
