10 Cool Hobbies to Get Into in 2021

(SPOT.ph) Let's face it. Most of 2020 was spent at home, trying to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19. We've managed to pick up new hobbies—from indoor planting to bakingto distract us from everything that's been happening in the world. And with the rate things are going, we may need to get into other ways to pass the time and stop ourselves from going mad amid all the bad news.

Soap making

Handmade soaps, especially those that come in the cutest shapes and colors and hypnotizing scents, are just irresistible. You can create your own through Craft MNL's two-hour course on melt-and-pour soap making. The module is at P750; but if you opt for the bundle with a starter kit, you need to shell out P1,100. Their basic class, which is perfect for beginners, covers woodworking 101, a safety introduction on the proper use of power tools, and pros and cons in using solid wood versus plywood. You also get to practice cutting, planing, assembly, and sanding of wood. Workshop schedule is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on selected dates. The fee is at P4,000 per head, which is inclusive of tools and materials, lunch and snacks, and Wood Academy certificate.

Wakeboarding

The nearest wakeboarding facility in the Metro is right in Calamba, Laguna—Republic Wakepark in Nuvali. Opened in 2012, it features a man-made body of water, ramps, a skatebox, and other obstacles where you can do your twists and turns while on the board. But if you're just starting to get into this water sport, you can also practice simple drills during a two-hour ride.

Long-standing theater company Repertory Philippines is offering online workshops in performing arts for adults from January 18 to February 13, 2021. You can also sign up for voice lessons.

Rowing

The class uses Zoom and Google Classroom for discussions, demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and offline projects to practice your skills.

You can also level up your swimming skills and get ready for aquathlons or even triathlons.
