(SPOT.ph) San Fernando, Pampanga, dubbed the "Christmas Capital of the Philippines," celebrates its parol-making industry by holding the annual Giant Lantern Festival every December. And while the pandemic is changing the way we're celebrating the holidays this year, the tradition of showcasing brightly colored parols continues at Robinsons Starmills Pampanga through the drive-in Giant Lantern Festival 2020 Nightly Displays.
Pre-registration through www.giantlantern.com is required. After registering, you'll be given your QR code and parking slot from where you can check out the giant parols and enjoy the Christmas tunes. Schedule of the shows is at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. until January 3, except December 24 and 31.
Locally referred to as the “Ligligan Parul," Pampanga's annual festival is a decades-old tradition with a history traced back to between 1904 and 1908. This also marks the 13th year that Robinsons Starmills Pampanga is hosting the event. Competing villages vie for the coveted "Brightest Star" award by creating their biggest, brightest, and best-designed Christmas lanterns. For this year, seven barangays are competing: Bulaon, Calulut, Sto. Niño, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, San Juan, and Telabastagan.
