This Soon-to-Open Café Is Your Next Minimalist-Cool Hangout

(SPOT.ph) When in South Korea, visiting one of their many #aesthetic cafés is a must. Not only do you get to caffeinate yourself, you also get to enjoy their distinctive interiors—and snap photos for Instagram, if you prefer! If you're looking for a similar experience locally, you'll want to put Moon Cafe on your must-visit list. This soon-to-open spot in Angeles City, Pampanga will transport you right to the Land of the Morning Calm with its elegant yet minimalist-cool look.

Check out their minimalist space!

Moon Cafe is owned by Carl Tolentino and partner Anna Marie Lacson, who both work in cabin crew and share that their jobs were severely affected due to the pandemic. "We realized that we shouldn't just stick with one source of income," Tolentino shares in an interview with Spot.ph. "Even before the pandemic happened we [were] already thinking of a business related to customer service, which we're passionate about. Everytime we would plan what business we [would] put up, we [would] always do it in coffee shops. Because of that we thought, why not just put up our own coffee shop since we visit [them] often?"

We could stay here all day long.

Looking to offer something new in Angeles City, the pair came up with Moon Cafe, for which they picked a "clean and minimalist design" similar to the cafés in South Korea. Tolentino and Lacson extend the Korean theme right down to the details, even playing K-Drama soundtracks in the background to complete the experience. As far as food goes, you can expect Moon Cafe to offer specialty and pour over coffee, light meals like pasta (Tolentino hints at a Salted Egg Pasta that he calls his "personal favorite") and sandwiches, and pastries like croissants, pies, and Levain-style cookies.

Moon Cafe opens on December 18 and will be open from Monday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If there's anything that goes beautifully with coffee, it's chocolate cake—and there's not shortage of stellar versions in Manila. Some of our favorites are the moist-and-fudgy Decadent Chocolate Cake by Big Al's Cookie Jar (a.k.a. our favorite chocolate cake in Manila) and the towering, intensely-flavored 17-Layer Chocolate Cake by Workshop. You can get them delivered, too—no need to fret if you can't step out of the house!

Big Al's Cookie Jar's Decadent Chocolate Cake ranked first in our 2019 Top 10 Chocolate Cake list.
