(SPOT.ph) Finally, Netflix is adding a Cebuano work to its global platform! And they've chosen one heck of a movie to start with: the 2016 dark humor hit Patay na si Hesus. The Jaclyn Jose starrer lands on Netflix on December 20, so if you missed it the first time around, be sure to mark your calendars!

Jose, in her first ever Bisaya-speaking role, stars as hardened single mother Iyay. She brings her brood of three—trans man Jude (Chai Fonacier), the chill Jay (Melde Montañez), and Hubert (Vincent Viado), who has down syndrome—on a life-changing road trip from Cebu City to Dumaguete. Their destination? The funeral of their estranged father. Cue a bunch of crazy hilarious, with a slice of painful, series of events.
Patay na si Hesus was directed by Cebuano filmmaker Victor Villanueva and opened to rave reviews. It won multiple awards, including Audience Choice and Gender Sensitivity awards from the QCinema International Film Festival in 2016 and the Jury’s Choice award during the 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
Needless to say, Patay na si Hesus doesn't follow the usual tone and narrative. This indie takes on a different, more niche type of story—which, somehow, makes it all the more relatable. The movie created a lot of buzz thanks to its in-your-face dark humor mixed with religious and social commentaries, so be sure to check it out for yourself and see why it got so popular!
