The phone cases we use are more than just protection for our precious mobile devices. From choosing Insta-worthy and selfie-ready designs to putting polaroid photos of your barkada at the back, personalized phone cases have been the go-to way to express one's personality and creativity. And if you can't find a phone case that suits your style, you can always go for the DIY route and design one yourself.
A miniature artist did just that to come up with a unique but deeply personal phone design. Rhica Obien (@the_rhicrafts) designed a plain phone case as well-loved Filipino dishes like kare-kare and nilaga which she shared on her social media pages. They look so realistic that it might just make your mouth water!
In a conversation with Candymag.ph, Rhica shares, "I always want to have different and unique phone cases but unfortunately wala po akong makita or magustuhan online, kaya one time bigla ko na lang po siyang naisip na, why not try Filipino food since wala pa naman po ako so far na nakikitang Pinoy food phone cases. And aside from that mahilig po talaga akong kumain."
Rhica made the designs using polymer clay and resin. She also used soft pastel and paint to add in little details. Her posts have gotten traction thanks to fellow nilaga and kare-kare lovers, wondering if she's selling the phone cases. Rhica is selling custom-designed ones with the price ranging from P350 to P1,200, depending on the complexity. She's also working on more projects and more food-related designs due to popular demand. Aside from the phone cases, Rhica has made other miniature designs, which she shares on her social media page.
