(SPOT.ph) The Philippines is home to some of the best diving spots in the world. In fact, we were given "Asia's Leading Dive Destination" title in the 27th World Travel Awards in 2020 and "World’s Leading Dive Destination" in 2019. Some of our indigenous communities, especially those living in the coast, were natural divers even before freediving was a thing. But in case you want to practice your skills in a controlled environment that's (way) deeper than the 20-foot diving pool we have in the Metro, a 148-foot (or 45-meter) pool called Deepspot just opened on November 22 in Warsaw, Poland.
Deepspot claims to be the world's deepest swimming pool, a title previously held by Y-40 Deep Joy in Italy with a depth of 42 meters. It contains about 8,000 cubic meters of water, which is about 20 times the amount in a 25-meter pool. The depth is about half as tall as New York's Statue of Liberty or London's Big Ben. You'd also need about 29 average-sized Filipinos (five feet and 1.57 inches) to make that depth.
At the bottom of the pool are shipwrecks, underwater caves, Mayan ruins, and an artificial "blue hole," to give divers that extra motivation to scale all 148 feet. It also has an underwater glass tunnel, where spectators can walk through. Sometime in December, a hotel with rooms sumberged underwater at five meters will be available for guests.
Deepspot is in Warsaw, Poland. It is open from Monday to Friday, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.; every Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.; and every Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, visit Deepspot's website.
