The first commercial flight entering the Bantayan Island Airport will carry members of the media, vloggers, and social media influencers. The troop will be touring the island on a "mini Suroy-Suroy," a.k.a. mini tour, from November  27 to 29, explained Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, according to a Philippine News Agency report. It's meant to showcase the three towns on the island: Banayan, Madridejos, and the popular tourist destination, Santa Fe.

"All the Bantayanons, Lawisnons [residents of Madridejos town], and Santafehanons, will surely be very very happy on that day,” Garcia said during a meerting with the Provincial Development Council for the new airport.

The new airport will be a gateway to the so-called "Paradise of the North." A flight from the Mactan International Airport will take around 20 to 30 minutes. The airport has a 1.2 kilometer-long runway that can accommodate 60-seater planes, and will reportedly open in December.

Bantayan Island is a quiet paradise north of Cebu, far from the usual crowded beach hotspots like Boracay and La Union. The three towns rely heavily on tourism for livelihood so the new gateway will ideally help the place flourish. No final opening date for the airport has been set amid health protocols, but the initial media tour will bring attention to the new tourist destination.
