(SPOT.ph) 2020 is a huge mess. It's just bad news upon bad news as the months pass—starting from the eruption of Taal Volcano to the recent flooding caused by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses. There's also the global COVID-19 pandemic, which isn't over yet. It seems like a good time to believe in the power of wishing stars; and the upcoming Leonids Meteor Shower, which is happening in the late hours of November 17, is our chance to do so.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, the Leonids is "one of the most prolific meteor showers." Its radiant is in the constellation Leo, thus the name. All you have to do is look up the eastern section of the sky around 2 a.m. on November 18 for the peak hour. Projections show that there might be about 15 meteors per hour in the evening of November 17 until dawn of November 18. These meteors come from bits of debris left behind by the passing of Comet Tempel-Tuttle.
Hopefully, the absence of weather disturbances in the next few days will promise a clear sky for stargazing.
