Jericho Rosales and Kim Jones Are Helping Rescue Efforts Using Surfboards

The city of Marikina has been badly hit by the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses in the country. Many residents are currently in need of rescuing because of the heavy flooding. Some have fled to their second floors, while others have resorted to staying on their rooftops while waiting to be rescued.

Celebrities Jericho Rosales and Kim Jones, who are also residents of Marikina, have taken it upon themselves to assist in the rescue operations. Due to the lack of flotation devices available, ABS-CBN News reports that the couple brought out their surfboards to check on residents in their village who are trapped inside their homes and have yet to be evacuated.

"This morning, paglabas namin, baha na. Usually kapag baha dito kasi, ganyan talaga. Laging ganyan ang problema. Sometimes walang boats or flotation devices so naglabas kami ni Kim ng surfboard," Rosales said in an interview with the news outlet. He notes that everyone is safe but are scared to go outside, opting to wait for rescue boats to arrive.

The actor then adds that he feels typhoon Ulysses is worse than typhoon Ondoy, because they were not prepared for the flood to reach this level. Currently, water levels in Marikina are reported to have reached 22 meters, half a meter more than Ondoy's 21.5.

When asked for his message for his fellow Filipinos affected by the typhoon, Rosales calls for everyone to stay calm and take this as a learning experience to be prepared for similar situations in the future. He also calls for support for the rescuers.

"Stay calm and siguro it’s too late now to complain or anything so mas maganda, kung tayo mismo in the future we can prepare. It’s always preparation para sa akin. Preparation ng mga nasa bahay and ng mga rescuers. Of course, support the rescuers. I hope they get enough funds for rescue. We get better warnings sana for the people para hindi na mangyari."
