Considering everyone's newfound fascination for all sorts of trending desserts over the quarantine period, we're pretty sure you've already tried (or at least heard of) the chocolate dream cake. After all, the sweet treat has inspired a dozen of iterations over the past few months. Commonly served in a round tin can, it characteristically comes with gooey chocolate cake at the bottom and a layer of ganache on top—and it's aptly called a dream cake because it tastes like a dream!
Now, if you’re a fan of both chocolate and caramel, we have good news for you. Another local Instagram-based shop has introduced their own take on the crowd-favorite dessert and their version comes with three delectable layers: moist chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, and—yup, you guessed it!—luscious caramel. Apicapica Manila, founded by Niki Lacson, gives a modern delightful twist to the classic chocolate cake that you probably remember from your childhood. It’s sinful, nostalgic, and worth every bite!
The business, which Lacson only started during the quarantine, is a by-product of her passion to cook and bake for her own family. In fact, the name Apicapica was actually a made-up word that her two-year-old daughter just randomly blurted out to describe the cake she made for her.
“What makes our brand unique is the way the cakes are baked because we use a slow-cook method. We have also perfected the right level of sweetness, and we use local ingredients to help local cacao farmers,” she tells Preview. “Basing on the feedback we received from our customers, our chocolate cake reminds them of their childhood. Our goal is to bring the best chocolate cake experience right to your doorstep.”
Apicapica’s Chocolate Dream Cake is priced at P395 per order, which is already good for sharing…or not! We totally won’t judge if you’d prefer to have it all for yourself.
