(SPOT.ph) While the rest of the world is slowly transitioning to business-as-usual, there are still some of us who are still very much aware that the COVID-19 virus is still out there. This means having to stay at home for an indefinite time, except for important errands and quick visits to shops to stock up on essentials. Crowd-drawing events like theater shows, exhibit openings, and art workshops have also adapted and embraced the shift to the digital sphere. And while we’re unsure if life is ever going back to normal, there are a number of shows to watch and exhibits to see from the comforts of home.

Ang Huling El Bimbo
Following the huge success of Ang Huling El Bimbo's free streaming in May, the hit Filipino musical is set to return to our screens in November in case you missed out. You can choose from two sets of cast members: the Red Team features Tanya Manalang as Young Joy, Reb Atadero as Young Hector, Vic Robinson as Young Emman, and Lance Reblando as Young Anthony; while the Blue Team features Gab Pangilinan as Young Joy, Bibo Reyes as Young Hector, Boo Gabunada as Young Emman, and Phi Palmos as Young Anthony.
Ang Huling El Bimbo runs from November 28 to 29 through KTX.ph. Tickets are at P600.
First Edition
Cartellino, a digital art-selling platform named after the Italian word for "small piece of paper," is holding a two-week sale of limited-edition archival prints by over a hundred Filipino artists. Participants include Apol Sta. Maria, Buen Abrigo, Kidlat de Guia, MM Yu, Rob Cham, Vin Quilop, and many more. For every print purchased, 50% of the profits will go to the artists, 30% to the selected beneficiary, and 20% will go to a pooled artist communal fund.

Masks and Spirits
Filipina-American contemporary painter Pacita Abad is celebrated not only in the Philippines, but also abroad. She's one of the few international artists who has three pieces on permanent display at Tate Modern, one of London's many free-admission museums lauded for its vast collection of international modern and contemporary art. Four of her paintings are currently installed at Silverlens, which you can either visit through appointment or access digitally.

bcc: in search of cures | correspondence art in the pandemic
As an art experiment, artists and audience participants exchanged e-mail correspondences for 30 days. The project started with interesting prompts, ranging from a Japanese character to a photograph, and the respective responses made up of short musings, reflections, or recollections. At the end of the month, the prompts and responses by five previously anonymous artists were revealed and archived online. The articipants are David Felix, Pam Quinto, Hauritsa, mizutama, and Solana Perez; while the curators are Fara Martia Manuel-Nolasco and Alain Zedrick Camiling.

Pagburo at Pag-alsa: Natural Depictions and Illustrated Prophecies (Gelacio, 1910)
Opened on October 9, Pagburo at Pag-alsa: Natural Depictions and Illustrated Prophecies (Gelacio, 1910) showcases visual artist Jo Tanierla's interpretation of Gelacio's journey in the mythical mountains of Montalban, Rizal alongside soothsayer Manta-tio. While you can check out the show at Vargas Museum, you can also experience it at home through a video walkthrough by Tanierla and curator Carlo Pacolor, a transcription of that walkthrough, and a scanned copy of Gelacio’s 20-page journal.
Pagburo at Pag-alsa: Natural Depictions and Illustrated Prophecies (Gelacio, 1910) runs until December 12 through a virtual walkthrough on YouTube. Viewing by appointment is also available at Vargas Museum, Roxas Avenue, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

Time Space
Time Space, which is presented by Young Phi Kappa Phi Artists and Balangay Artists Association, interprets the different kind of time and space that we live in now. The group, comprising 14 artists from different regions in the Philippines and artistic backgrounds, hopes to share a light of positivity through art.

Uncrating O2O
Uncrating O2O, which is presented online through Instagram and offline through a gallery space at Greenbelt 5, has two exhibits for its first edition. The first is a collection of works by 45 artists from Tin-Aw Art Management, while the second is a rare glimpse into the works of Filipino street artist Egg Fiasco. The works are staged with the use of crates, designed by theater director and scenographer Ed Lacson, Jr.

UTSUROI Live Archives
The anti-disciplinary collective arm of Sipat Lawin Inc., Komunidad X, is launching kXchange.org—an online platform that’s set to showcase theater streamings, panel discussions, and recorded interviews. Their first offering is UTSUROI Live Archives, which features cultural exchanges and performances of Filipino and Japanese artists as proof of the rich synergy and relationship between the two artist communities.
UTSUROI Live Archives runs from November 24 to December 19 through kXchange.org.
Les Misérables: The Staged Concert
Not all of us had the time to fly all the way to London to catch the stage production Les Misérables: The All-Star Staged Concert in 2019. Luckily, there's a live stage recording that was captured on December 2 that year, which will soon be available to the public.

Care Divas
Philippine Educational Theater Association also makes the digital shift by streaming one of their hit Filipino musicals, Care Divas, through KTX.ph. The award-winning piece follows the lives of five transgender overseas Filipino workers—Chelsea, Shai, Kayla, Jonee, and Thalia—who serve as caregivers by day for the elderly in Israel. By night, they perform as drag queens in a nightclub in Tel Aviv for extra cash.
Care Divas runs from November 27 to 29 and December 7 through KTX.ph. Tickets, which give 24-hour access to the show, are at P220.
