I still can’t believe that we’re getting a new Faces of Death movie. I still remember the reputation that it had while I was a teenager and how it still blurred the lines of what was real and what wasn’t. Hell, it was essentially considered a snuff film. Then the director, on his deathbed, admitted that much of it (outside of the animal killings, which are still despicable) was faked. That seemed to take a little of the mystique away but it’s certainly never been something I threw on for entertainment. So it was surprising that we received a new film, with a mainstream edge. I spoke with writer/director Daniel Goldhaber and writer Isa Mazzei about their new film and what made them want to pursue this. Surprisingly, this wasn’t a passion project for either and they were actually approached by the Studio. Daniel gets into his process of research as well as using his time as a content moderator to help inform some of the story choices. Isa talks about how much of Dacre Montgomery‘s character was on the page versus what he brought to the table during filming. Oh, and they talk about just killing real people for their death scenes. Okay, it was a joke but still, it’s a good soundbite. Check it all out in the video above!
Faces of Death plot:
In Faces of Death, the exploration of the original film’s infamous “is it real, or not?” conceit continues as a woman (Ferreira) working as a content moderator for a major video platform discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fiction, or unfolding in real time.
Faces of Death releases exclusively to theaters on April 10th, 2026.
