This Is Us is all about family relationships and the complicated feelings and tensions that can spring up in a family over time. The Pearson family at the series' core is a strong unit, but they've also suffered some tragedies. It's not all been sad though, their family has been able to grow and expand over time, welcoming new people to the mix along the way. Randall and Miguel seem to have a special relationship that is unmatched by the relationship Miguel has with Kate or Kevin. There are a few reasons for this, but also it's this bond that leads to their spat in Season 6, Episode 13, "Day of the Wedding."
