The Cellar Movie Review

In 2004, Irish filmmaker Brendan Muldowney made a short film called The Ten Steps, a creepy little sketch about a teenage girl descending into the cellar of her creaky old house and counting way more steps than there should have been to get to the bottom. It's a simple and effectively scary 10 minutes, with no need to explain what horrors the main character finds at the bottom of the stairs -- if there even is a bottom. Now, 18 years later, after making three other feature films, Muldowney returns to that short for The Cellar, a feature-length expansion that doesn't offer any more substantial scares in its 94 minutes than The Ten Steps offered in 10.
