Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn "tried" and failed to take a picture of Will Poulter's Adam Warlock.
On Twitter, Gunn shared a photo from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was supposed to be of Warlock. However, the actual image uploaded is blurry and twisted. Gunn used the hashtag "CosmicPowers," joking that the photo's failure was the result of Warlock's formidable abilities.
Poulter, who is known for his roles in such films as 2010's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and 2014's The Mazerunner, was cast as Warlock in October 2021. Created by Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and the Sovereign, Warlock was originally teased at the end of 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where he appeared in a golden cocoon. Since his casting, Poulter has confirmed that he's been working out for the role, and Gunn praised the actor, saying that he's "killing it" so far as Warlock.
At this time, little is known about the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which takes place after the events of 2019's Avengers: Endgame. The end of that movie saw the titular team, minus Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), heading back into space after playing a pivotal role in stopping Thanos. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will feature the return of all of the main cast from the previous films, though Saldaña will be playing the younger version of her character introduced in Endgame. Warlock, for his part, will be looking to get revenge on the Guardians of the Galaxy for their actions against the Sovereign.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warlock originally appeared as "Him" in 1967's Fantastic Four #66. Later, in 1972's Marvel Premiere #1, Roy Thomas and Gil Kane turned Him into Adam Warlock, a powerful being capable of standing toe-to-toe with Marvel's biggest heavyweights. In the comics, Warlock played a key role in stopping Thanos during 1991's The Infinity Gauntlet and formed the Infinity Watch team, which aimed to keep evildoers from using the Infinity Stones for their own ends.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases May 5, 2023. Prior to that movie, the titular team will return for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ in December of this year.
