Take Quentin Tarantino’s love of wisecracking guys prone to outbursts of extreme violence, add a dose of Shane Black’s 'young girl providing a hilarious and somewhat twisted counterpoint to the grizzled, middle-aged man' à la The Nice Guys, soak it in an Aussie accent, sprinkle plenty of pitch-black comedy around dead body disposals and drug deals gone bad, and you get Mr Inbetween, the first original FX production from Australia. Mr Inbetween centers around killer-for-hire Ray Shoesmith, his family and crime colleagues, and their adventures in the seedy underbelly of suburban Sydney. Despite its distinct setting and Australian vibe, many of its elements, from style to story, feel like a small-screen Tarantino adaptation.
