The Offer's First Trailer Sets Up the Epic Story of the Creation of The Godfather

Paramount+ debuted the first trailer for its new limited series The Offer.

The trailer focuses on Albert S. Ruddy (Miles Teller), the producer behind The Godfather as he struggles to create of the most ambitious films ever made. The Offer will tell the behind-the-scenes story of what many film buffs consider to be the greatest film ever made, highlighting the various obstacles that plagued the production. Teller is joined by Matthew Goode as Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt and Dan Fogler as Francis Ford Coppola.

The production of The Godfather was one reportedly fraught with intrigue and corporate espionage. While some of the story has been chronicled in the past, The Offer is expected to reveal never-before-seen information about the shooting of the iconic movie. While many fans are looking forward to seeing Fogler's take on Coppola, who is widely regarded as one of the most important directors of all time, others are anticipating a compelling performance from Justin Chambers, who plays Marlon Brando, widely revered for his iconic role as Don Vito Corleone.

While The Offer will provide fans with a glimpse into the glitzy past of Hollywood, Coppola's perception of the industry has changed since making The Godfather. The revered filmmaker believes that modern cinema is too heavily dominated by superhero movies. "When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he's right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration," Coppola said. "I don't know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again. Martin was kind when he said it's not cinema. He didn't say it's despicable, which I just say it is."

Despite his controversial views, Coppola has noted that there are a couple of Marvel movies that have earned his respect. The director is a fan of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, reportedly appreciating its innovation and animated performances. He also enjoyed Ryan Reynold's Deadpool, describing the visceral superhero blockbuster as "amazing."

The Offer will be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ and will premiere on April 28. The series will run for 10 episodes.
