Stunning Dark Souls Fan Art Places the Most Frustrating Enemies in a New Light

A fan of the revered Dark Souls franchise managed to shed new light on some of the first game's most frustrating enemies with some stunning fan art.

Illustrated by René Kováč (@ReneKovacArt), the gorgeous piece shows a single Silver Knight preparing to take down his prey. Players will undoubtedly recognize the intimidating spires of the great city of Anor Londo, awash with the cold light of a full moon. Gamers who have experienced the difficulties posed by the rooftop archers will be instantly drawn to the gigantic bow and arrow wielded by the silent warrior.

The level of detail expressed in the artwork is impressive, as Kováč manages to capture minute details such as the up-turned wings on the Silver Knight's helmet. The billowing cape and flock of birds further build on the natural beauty of the image, a stark contrast from the environment seen in the games. While Anor Londo appears in both Dark Souls and Dark Souls III, the night-time setting suggests that the image was largely inspired by its design in the third game. While the architecture and enemies remain similar, the original entry in the franchise features an Anor Londo that is seemingly experiencing a perpetual sunset.

René Kováč is a talented illustrator and concept artist who has created several stunning pieces dedicated to a variety of popular video games. These include titles like Crash Bandicoot, Call of Duty and FromSoftware's upcoming role-playing game Elden Ring. Kováč is open to commissions from fans looking for a new perspective on some of their favorite games.

Originally released in 2011, Dark Souls is widely considered to be one of the most influential and important games in recent history. While it debuted to divisive reviews due to its choppy performance and punishing difficulty, FromSoftware's seminal game eventually found a wide audience who adore its thought-provoking combat and intricately design world. The game proved so successful that it spawned two sequels, which, despite both being held in high regard by gamers, didn't manage to match the popularity of the original title.

While the franchise is largely considered dormant following the launch of Dark Souls 3, fans looking to experience a similar grim and grotesque world can look forward to the launch of Elden Ring. FromSoftware's latest RPG arrives on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on Feb. 25.
