Stranger Things Posters Combine to Reveal a New Monster for Season 4

Netflix recently dropped a set of posters for Season 4 of Stranger Things. While interesting on their own, the posters combine to provide new hints at the characters' upcoming journeys, as well as the mysterious new monster from the Upside Down they will all have to face.

The posters confirm the cast has split into four groups and will embark on separate journeys, entwined by a monster emerging from the Upside Down.

The group went their separate ways at the end of Season 3, with Eleven -- now without her powers -- and the Byers moving to California, while Hopper, who survived the explosion in the season final, was revealed to be a captive at a facility in Kamchatka, Russia. It's unknown how he survived the explosion and how he was transported to Russia.

Actor David Harbour previously teased, "You've seen that there is a Demogorgon in this prison from last season... I think they also referenced Alien 3, I think it was the Finch Alien, where they're trapped in a prison with a monster. There's an escape, Hopper trying to get home to his family element to it, which is really incredible. It's an incredible storyline. I think I have the best storyline."

Netflix and Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer recently revealed the substantial length of the upcoming season, necessitating the split release. Stranger Things Season 4 will be released in two volumes. Volume 1 will be available for streaming on May 27, followed by Volume 2 on July 1. The Duffer brothers explained in a letter, "With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one."

In addition, the creators confirmed that the show will see just one additional season before Stranger Things comes to an end. They stated, "Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things... At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but -- as you'll soon see for yourselves -- we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last."
