Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett - Baby Yoda Could Cross Palpatine's Path

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, "Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor," streaming now on Disney+.

As much fans wanted to see Grogu/Baby Yoda training as a Jedi under Luke Skywalker, many were glad the Season 1 finale of The Book of Boba Fett brought him back to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). They simply couldn't get enough of their father-son bond, leaving folks curious where they went to after the war on Mos Espa ended in victory. They left Tatooine, speeding off in the Naboo starfighter to surely set up The Mandalorian Season 3, but given what happened to the cosmos in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the series might have made Grogu a target for Emperor Palpatine.

It's known that Palpatine sensed awakenings or disturbances in the Force, as he so eloquently put it. He did so with Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Anakin and Luke Skywalker. This even continued years after Return of the Jedi with Rey and Ben Solo, which allowed Palpatine to use his Snoke clone to turn the latter into Kylo Ren.

As such, it's easy to envision him sensing Grogu the same way Luke did when the kid activated his powers on Corvus under Ahsoka Kano's watch. Given that the child then went to train with Luke and used his abilities on a couple occasions to save Din on Tatooine, this all might have inadvertently been a beacon for whichever Palpatine clone is alive, as well as his cult.

It could lead to Palpatine's disciples, or perhaps an early iteration of the Knights of Ren, coming after Mando and Grogu. It'd add a nice mix of mysticism to their story, keeping Grogu's arc with the Force going, while testing Mando against some of space's most powerful and dangerous opponents.

More so, Palpatine wanting Grogu, a survivor of Order 66, as a lab rat to perfect his clone would fit into why Moff Gideon wanted the child, while granting him revenge on the Light Side. Palpatine might even resume that project of harnessing the child's genes for an army, aiming to mix flesh and machine with whatever he can mine.

This guinea pig for Palpatine's revival and vision for the First Order would be dark irony given how much the Emperor hated Yoda. Not to mention, it would invite Luke back in an organic fashion for Season 3 and help confirm why he wasn't talked about on the big screen when Luke rebuilt the Order and his temple. Ultimately, Palpatine eyeing him would give Grogu agency and prove he impacted on the movies while still occupying his own cute space in Star Wars lore.

See how Baby Yoda might have painted a target on his back in The Book of Boba Fett, with all seven episodes of Season 1 streaming now on Disney+.
