Disney's most recent movie, Encanto, has grown in popularity since its release in November 2021. Disney fans have loved its catchy songs, flawless choreography, and strong themes surrounding family and self-importance. Since this is Disney's 60th Motion Picture, there's a lot to be celebrated about Encanto.
Easter eggs are featured in many animated productions, some notable ones being A113 or the pizza planet truck in Pixar movies. In terms of Disney, they tend to reference past movies in their new ones. Encanto wasn't left out when it came to including such easter eggs, although sometimes these are easily missed if viewers aren't looking carefully enough.
10 Frozen Is Referenced In All Of You
This easter egg was an easier one to spot because it was very direct and even included the well-known melody of the highly popularized song, "Let It Go" from Frozen. In the song "All Of You," the Madrigals are reunited with Bruno, who disappeared without a word for ten years. In the part where he apologizes to each family member, he tells his sister Pepa to "let it in, let it out, let it rain, let it snow, let it go," which refers to her power of controlling the weather with her emotions. This little easter egg fits well in the context and is a clever way to reference another Disney character who can control natural phenomena.
9 Hercules Is Referenced In Surface Pressure
The song "Surface Pressure" includes a lot of references, but a noteworthy one is about being the Titanic; although in this instance, it's in reference to a certain Greek god who stands out. In this song, Luisa is singing to Mirabel about the pressure she feels holding the weight of the family's wellbeing, and although she doesn't show it, it's an insanely heavy burden that's slowly getting too much to handle.
She mentions "under the surface, was Hercules ever like 'yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus'?" referring to the 1997 movie, Hercules, and showing Luisa preparing to fight the three-headed beast to protect Mirabel.
8 Hidden Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is the widely recognizable mascot for Disney, and in Encanto, Mickey makes not one but two appearances. The first was during the song "Waiting On A Miracle," where Mirabel expresses her desire to have a gift like everyone else in her family. There's a scene where she dances around each member of her family, and when she walks past her parents, there's a split second where the specs of light form a shape that looks very similar to Mickey's face. It's also speculated that Isabela's cactus is formed in the same shape.
7 The Donkeys Reference The Reindeer In Frozen 2
Another easter egg found in "Surface Pressure" has fans convinced that the dancing Donkeys are in reference to the singing Reindeer featured in the Frozen 2 song, "Lost In the Woods." Both characters, Lusia and Kristoff, are referenced a lot with particular animals in both movies. In terms of their solo songs, both include a scene where each character has a spotlight shining on them as their animal sidekicks add comedic flair to the scenes.
6 Familiar Looking Doors Featured In Surface Pressure
"Surface Pressure" isn't done with the references, as there's another scene that includes Luisa in front of a row of doors which creates a domino effect. While she holds up a door that resembles her own, a line of other doors is destroyed by an oncoming tornado. These doors each feature colorful designs that seem to be a reference to Monster's Inc, where each door was distinctly different in color and patterns since they all belonged to children. Even the frame around each door mimics the hanging doors seen in Monster's Inc.
5 The Plant Boot From Wall E Makes An Appearance
Most easter eggs are small details in the background of scenes that are easy to miss. In this instance, during the scene where Mirabel discovers that Bruno has been living in the walls this whole time, Antonio surprises the two and reveals that he knows what's been going on, and in the background is a plant in a boot.
This is an easter egg that references the movie Wall-E. When Wall-E finds a newly bloomed plant, he puts it in an old boot for safekeeping.
4 The Family Madrigal Sequence Is Inspired By Belle's
The first scene of Encanto is a very memorable one because a lot of important points about the family are told in a catchy musical number. It starts with children asking Mirabel questions about the family, which gives her the perfect chance to sing about them. What many viewers might have missed is the fact that this whole sequence is inspired by the one shown in Beauty and the Beast's "Belle." In this song, Belle is strolling through the village whilst singing about the everyday life of all those who live there. Similarly, Mirabel is singing about each member of her family, plus their gifts, whilst viewers are able to understand more about the town.
3 Camilo Greets A Young Mama Coco
On the night when Antonio will get his own gift, the Madrigals open up Casita to all the townspeople to come and celebrate with them. While each guest arrives, Camilo is seen using his shapeshifting abilities to welcome each one. Amongst all the people we see, there's one who looks a little familiar. It seemed like Camilo actually greets Mama Coco from the movie Coco. This character has the same braided hair, similar facial features, and a similar style dress to Mama Coco, so it's very possible that this is a fun little easter egg of Mama Coco in her younger years.
2 Isabela's Vines Are Inspired By Rapunzel's Hair
Isabela's gift gives her the power to grow various flowers and plants. While her specialty lies with roses, she's seen multiple times using vines to easily travel from one place to the other, as well as reach higher points.
Her swinging technique is shown the best during her song, "What Else Can I Do" where she swings across long distances. This is where the easter egg speculation comes from; her swinging is very similar to how Rapunzel from Tangled used her long hair to do various chores around her tower.
1 The Toucan's Voice Actor
When Antonio receives his ability to talk with animals, he's immediately greeted by a Toucan, who starts chirping and communicating with him. What many people might have missed is how this Toucan is voiced by Alan Tudyk, who's voiced countless Disney characters – especially animal sidekicks such as Heihei from Moana, Iago from the live-action adaptation of Aladdin, and Tuktuk from Raya and the Last Dragon. Not many fans pick up on this easter egg as Tudyk's tendency to voice Disney animals isn't very obvious at first.
