Things look bad for the good guys in a newly released preview for Dragon Ball Super's next chapter.
SPOILERS FOR DRAGON BALL SUPER FOLLOW:
A batch of preview images for the next chapter were released through the official Dragon Ball website. While Granolah seemed like he'd be able to repel the Heeters' new attack early on, the preview suggests that the Cerealean may now be in serious trouble. His opponent, Gas, who has had his powers buffed thanks to a wish from this planet's Dragon Balls, is shown taunting the series' heroes, and when Granolah instead tries to attack Elec, the leader of the Heeters, Gas delivers a painful looking kick to Granolah's forearms, as an exhausted Goku and Vegeta powerlessly look on.
Fans will have to wait until Feb. 21, when Chapter 81 of the series is scheduled to be officially released in English, to see if Granolah is able to mount a comeback and finally get his revenge.
Earlier this year, a representative for the series stated that the current Granolah the Survivor saga will wrap up soon, but has a few twists and turns left to go before the story will be completed. The arc first began in 2020 and introduced several new characters to the series, including the eponymous Granolah, the sole survivor of a race that was supposedly driven to near-extinction by the Saiyans decades ago. The arc also featured the debut of a new transformation for Vegeta, Ultra Ego, which was designed to be the dark counterpart to Goku's Ultra Instinct form.
While the Granolah the Survivor arc is ending, Dragon Ball fans still have plenty to look forward to in 2022. The franchise's next movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is set to debut in Japan next April. The film features a brand new, CG-animated visual style and will reportedly focus on the characters of Piccolo and Gohan, as the master and disciple duo team-up once again to take on a new pair of the Red Ribbon Army's androids. Additionally, Dragon Ball series producer Akio Iyoku also recently teased that there may be more animated entries in the franchise in 2022 beyond the new movie. While Iyoku did not reveal any other details about what this new animated project may be, fans are speculating that this could potentially mean the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime series. The original Super anime concluded its broadcast run in 2018, and the manga has since published plenty of material that has yet to receive an animated adaptation.
Dragon Ball Super is written by series creator Akira Toriyama and features art by his protege, Toyotarou. It is published by VIZ Media in English, which releases new chapters every month through its Manga Plus website.
