ABS CBN Resume Operation In Youtube, Reveals Account Got Compromised

The YouTube channels of ABS-CBN News and the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) were inaccessible as of Tuesday morning, November 3.

When accessed, an error appears with the message “Video unavailable. This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.”

As of August 16, ABS-CBN News registered 10 million subscribers on the platform.

While there are speculations that both YouTube channels might have been hacked, ABS-CBN issued a statement saying that they are coordinating with YouTube to resolve the issue.

“We are currently investigating this and working closely with YouTube to resolve the problem. In the meantime, you can catch our live streams and news reports on the Teleradyo channel. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

According to the video platform’s definition, a terminated account means that the user may not be able to “use, own, or create any other YouTube channels/accounts.”

ABS-CBN has been largely live-streaming its news content on YouTube and Facebook after the House of Representatives’ legislative franchises committee denied its application for a fresh franchise.

This was not the first time that ABS-CBN encountered problems.

In terms of delivering news to the public.

Last September, its news website, news.abs-cbn.com, became temporarily inaccessible.

Although it could be accessed in Apple’s Safari browser and those with VPN installed.

Meanwhile, the closure of its news accounts on YouTube prompted Filipinos to call out the video-sharing platform as they ask for an explanation.

“@YouTube, why terminate ABS-CBN News? Andami daming fake news na nagkalat, ba’t ‘di ‘yon ang alisin niyo,” an online user said.

Others claimed that the news accounts were allegedly streaming about cryptocurrency before it was taken down.

And as it turns out, it seems that their channel indeed became compromised. According to a spokesperson from YouTube based on an article from PhilStar, the channels of ABS-CBN News and ANC were hacked on November 2.

A netizen @medyemen also posted screenshots of ABS-CBN News and ANC’s YouTube channels featuring videos from Ripple Foundation.

ABS-CBN has issued a statement about the hacking incident.

As of writing, fans and followers of the network can now once again access their programs on the famous video sharing platform
